Yarra’s gone electric, but this has nothing to do with Toyota. Ramping up it’s Ride Yarra Ranges projects with work currently progressing on the Yarra Valley Trail and Warburton Mountain Bike Destination, the Yarra Ranges Shire Council has now installed two e-bike charging stations at the trailhead area near the shops in Lilydale, east of Melbourne, and two more at the junction of the Yarra Valley Rail Trails at nearby Beresford Rd.
The American-made Saris charging stations are already in operation at the trailhead on the main street, where there are also toilets, a shelter, bike repair station, parking and picnic tables. Here they will also serve e-bike riders arriving in town on the Carrum to Warburton Trail who might be feeling a bit flat. All they need to do is bring a bike lock to secure their bike to the charging station, their own 230-volt charger and a padlock if they want to lock the device away while enjoying a long lunch or exploring the town. The two stations at Beresford Rd are still awaiting a power connection.
From there, riders can choose to go 7km north to Yering or 40km east to Warburton. Hopefully, there will be charging stations at that end of the trail at some stage.
You can lock your bike to it and lock your charger in the cabinet

It is good to see them but having them say halfway from Lilydale to Warburton is a better option as there you are halfway there or halfway coming back and it would be better in that position so riders can stop for a break and get a charge for their bikes and continue on either home or towards where they are going, also having a charge station at Warburton would be much better option as well, there most riders stop for a meal and then ride back.
Thanks for your comments, Brian. It seems Yarra Ranges Shire is developing the site on the Maroondah Hwy as a trailhub for people riding up from Carrum. Hopefully there will be more at the mountain bike trailhead in Wesburn, which is not far from the rail trail, and in Warburton
